ADULTS ON THE OUTSIDE
ADULTS ON THE OUTSIDE
- I see you! You are actually eight years old.
If you say that to a grown-up you’ll see right away that you’ve hit the nail on the head. They won’t take any offence and they’ll probably thank you for your insight. Every so-called grown up feels like they’re actually 16. Or 11. Or sometimes 5.
In this new Teatr.doc production adults are telling their own stories about how the age they feel on the inside doesn’t match they age they are on the outside, and about how that can lead to some pretty unusual situations.
- So I walk up to my teacher’s desk, put down my briefcase, pull up my suit and say: “Hello, my name is Viktoria Petrovna”. And I think: “Really? Viktoria Petrovna? But I am Vika, Vichka!
- Our plane has crashed. Only my boss and I have survived. He’s lying on the deserted beach. I can see his hairy chest through his torn shirt. I’m crawling towards him and starting to perform CPR. And, at this most exhilarating moment, the phone always rings.
- “Assa”, “Brother-2”, “Tanya D”. One of these films was directed by me. And then I recorded a song. It was a hit – let’s say “Yesterday”… or “I love you till I cry”.
There are no professional actors in this final play directed by Mikhail Ugarov, only graduates of the Theatre.doc Anti-School. They are not teenagers but they are very capable of speaking sarcastically to their outer-adult. They demand punk-rock and justice. They whisper that under the pavements there are beaches (just like in 1968 Paris). They do a lot of things they sometimes feel ashamed of, but usually these things bring fun, and little bit of anxiety. And the most important thing is that these "teenagers" know for sure that freedom is better than the lack of it.
